Shinnston, WV --- Josh
‘Kid Rocket’ Richards of Shinnston, WV had a Friday night he won’t soon
forget. The World of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series are in
Chillicothe, OH at KC Raceway on Friday June 17th and Saturday June 18th for
the $20,000 to win “Veterans Appreciation 100”. The two-day event at Jim
Nier’s KC Raceway kicked off on Friday night with time trials and a special
non-point feature event. The fastest six World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late
Model Series drivers in time trials went against the fastest six non-World
Of Outlaws drivers in a 15 lap - $2,000 to win affair with 17-year-old Kid
Rocket taking home his career first victory after starting fourth.
Kid Rocket turned in his
amazing performance in his Mark Richards Racing-owned #1 Seubert Calf
Ranches, Ace Metal Works, MCB Motorsports, Hoosier Racing Tires, Rocket
Chassis, Cornett Engines Grand Prix.
Starting fourth in the special Stacker 2 WoO LMS non-point feature Kid
Rocket slugged it out with some of the hottest drivers in the business
Friday night and took the lead dramatically on the first lap coming off turn
four and eventually took the win over Jackie Boggs, Billy Moyer, Steve
Francis, Rick Eckert, Rob Blair, Rod Conley, Mike Balzano, Eddie Carrier
Jr., Dale McDowell, John Blankenship and Chub Frank.
“It feels awesome,” stated an enthusiastic Richards after the victory lane
celebration. “This is the car we had at West Plains and it wasn’t any good
up there so we decided to work on it and get it going and it’s an awesome
car.”
Richards won against a stout field and the 15-lap run at the front was
impressive against the caliber of competition. “(Laughs) It’s like a big
relief, it’s like I finally actually won something,” responded Richards when
asked how he felt to win against such a stellar group of cars. “I mean, it
was called a dash but it was still pretty cool.”
During time trials prior to the non-point feature event Kid Rocket timed in
seventh quickest at 14.249 out of the 38 car field.
Kid Rocket and the team will return to KC Raceway on Saturday evening with
racing activities that include the qualifying heat races, “B” Mains, Pole
Dash and the “Veterans Appreciation 100”. “I feel pretty confident for
tomorrow, the car is good,” commented Richards. “(Darrell) Lanigan and a
couple other guys were pretty good in practice, they weren’t in the race,
but they were fast in practice afterwards. Like I said though, the car is
awesome, I just got to get it to the front again.”
Kid Rocket will also participate in a pre-race “Party In The Pits” that is
scheduled from 3:00 PM to 4:30 PM Saturday featuring several of the World Of
Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series drivers in a “meet and greet” with live
music and concessions. |
