Shinnston, WV --- Josh ‘Kid Rocket’
Richards ventured west to the historic Knoxville Raceway in Knoxville, IA
for the 3rd Annual Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals this past
weekend where he made the main event over a stout field of national
competitors. Kid Rocket was competing in his Mark Richards Racing-owned #1
Seubert Calf Ranches, Ace Metal Works, MCB Motorsports, Hoosier Racing
Tires, Rocket Chassis, Cornett Engines Grand Prix.
Kid Rocket entered the 3rd Annual Lucas Oil Knoxville Late Model Nationals
main event starting in the 11th starting slot and impressively made his way
up to the third place position but he jumped the cushion and got the right
rear into the wall and developed a vibration and retired for the night on
lap 89.
During the Thursday evening time trials Kid Rocket timed in 14th fastest
among the 61 car field. During heat race action Kid Rocket won his heat race
and finished eighth in the preliminary night main event. For Friday night’s
program Kid Rocket timed in 22nd quick and finished fourth in his heat race
and a 15th in the preliminary main event.
Joining Kid Rocket for the weekend was teammate Tony Stewart, the two-time
NASCAR Nextel Cup Series champion who came from 17th to finish second in a
Rocket car fielded by Mark Richards Racing and Rocket Chassis and sponsored
by the Bass Pro Shops and Tracker Boats. Stewart flew back to Kansas City,
Kansas right after Knoxville where he went on to win the Nextel Cup
sanctioned Banquet 400 at Kansas Speedway.
Kid Rocket also signed-up to wait tables at the Knoxville Late Model
Celebrity Waiter Dinner & Auction on Saturday, September 30. The annual
fund-raising event, which is held in conjunction with the Lucas Oil
Knoxville Late Model Nationals, benefits the host National Sprint Car Hall
of Fame & Museum in Knoxville and, to a lesser degree, the National Dirt
Late Model Hall of Fame in Florence, Kentucky.
Up next for Kid Rocket is the return to the World of Outlaws Late Model
Series tour on Sun., Oct. 8, with the running of the postponed Pittsburgher
100 at Pittsburgh’s Pennsylvania Motor Speedway in Imperial, Pa.
