Shinnston, WV --- It’s
been a busy week or more for Josh ‘Kid Rocket’ Richards as the 17-year-old
Stacker 2 World of Outlaws Late Model Series rookie of the year contender
hit the road for series events throughout the Midwest competing in his
Mark Richards Racing-owned #1 Seubert Calf Ranches, Ace Metal Works, MCB
Motorsports, Hoosier Racing Tires, Rocket Chassis, Cornett Engines Gran
Prix. Despite a couple rainouts, Kid Rocket still pulled off top five and
top ten finishes and earned the ‘Rookie of the Race’ awards at each event.
The World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series headlined the “Farley
50” at Farley Speedway in Farley, IA on Thursday June 2 where Richards
qualified eighth fastest with a time of 19.418 and scored a second place
in the fourth heat with a 12th place finish in the “Farley 50”.
The next evening officials of Eagle Raceway and the World Of Outlaws
Stacker 2® Late Model Series were forced to cancel the $10,000 to win
“High Bank Heist 60” scheduled for Friday, June 3rd at the high-banked
1/3rd mile oval after heavy early morning rains saturated the racing
surface and speedway grounds. With return of heavy rain forecasted
officials were left with no choice but to cancel the event. The event will
not be rescheduled.
Persistent rain has forced Dakota State Fair Speedway promoter Orville
Chenoweth and World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series officials to
postpone the $10,000 to win “Challenge Cup 50” scheduled for Saturday,
June 4th. The event was rescheduled for the following evening where
Richards qualified ninth fastest with a time of 18.430. Finishing fifth in
the first heat required Kid Rocket to run the B Main that he won handily.
Starting the “Challenge Cup 50” in 17th starting position Richards worked
his way up to an eighth place finish.
On Monday June 6 the World Of Outlaws Stacker 2® Late Model Series
participated in the “26th Annual Gopher 50” at Deer Creek Speedway in
Spring Valley, MN. Kid Rocket qualified seventh fastest in time trials and
won the third heat over Rick Eckert and Brian Birkhofer and capped the
night off with an impressive third place finish in the “26th Annual Gopher
50”.
“The track was really racy,” commented Josh. “You could run the bottom, go
to the middle, take it up top or wherever. Later in the race I moved up
top and felt pretty good. Early I was racing under Steve and racing clean
and then we went to the top and followed him. It was pretty cool.”
Currently Josh Richards sits in eighth place in the World Of Outlaws
Stacker 2® Late Model Series national points chase tied with Clint Smith
with 1,452 points.
This weekend June 10-11 Josh ‘Kid Rocket’ Richards will return to the
mighty highbanks of Eldora Speedway for only the second time as a driver
to try and make the starting field for the illustrious THE DREAM race
which will pay the winner $100,000. Kid Rocket merchandise will also be
available throughout the weekend in souvenir’s row at the Slavic Racing
Shirts Souvenir Trailer. Kid Rocket has released a variety of new
merchandise produced by Slavic Custom Shirts.
